Absenteeism Management

Managing absenteeism depends on being able to identify the important factors that are causing an issue from the many possible factors in a workplace. Only a health services provider who is an expert in occupational health issues, who has a solid working knowledge of your workplace and who has the medical and allied health experts in place nearby is in a position to resolve issues of absenteeism in your company or worksite.

The complexity of these issues means that it could be a combination of getting the right person for the job in the first place, treating and managing injuries effectively, managing a return to work, or programs in prevention, influenza etc. These measures are just a few of those that may play a part in decreasing the incidence of absenteeism.

One good example is the improved result obtained through a focus on influenza, where, in an attempt to cut the more than 1 million working days lost in Australia each year from the virus; Australian business is rapidly embracing workplace vaccination programs.

Vaccination is the best form of prevention against the influenza. Published studies in North America, including in the New England Journal of Medicine, show that the influenza vaccine reduces the risk of illness in healthy people by 70 to 90 percent.

In certain workplaces, an influenza vaccination program may make a significant difference to absenteeism or days lost to injury or illness.
