New approach to pre-employment medical assessment
We are changing our pre-employment medical assessment service. The changes ensure that we continue to add value to your recruitment and selection decision-making and support you in managing the health of your workforce.
The changes are based on our client's feedback, a review of clinical best practice and local service innovation currently existing within our operational network of 20 clinics.
These changes have been adopted by Health for Industry nationally and include:
Streamlined assessment tool. We have revised our assessment tool to streamline and refine the collection and recording of medical and occupational information. This streamlined tool becomes our standard approach to basic pre-employment medical assessment, Australia-wide.
One size doesn't fit all. We understand that the inherent requirements of jobs differ – whether by task, by company or by industry. For this reason we have identified a range of screening procedures that can be added to our standard service to match your job risks and requirements. We are available to meet with you to discuss options – including a company-specific form or process – to ensure that our assessment meets your need.
Mental health screening. We have introduced a validated and reliable mental health screen that can be included as part of our pre-employment medical assessment or can be offered as a stand alone assessment. The assessment is completed online and includes 50 questions that take less than 15 minutes to complete.
New risk profile recommendations. Often it is not as simple as finding a person fit or unfit for work. Our doctors specialise in occupational medicine and understand the risks faced by workers. We also understand how to manage a medical condition, or modify the job or workplace, to minimise the risk at work. For this reason we have added recommendations to our reports to provide additional advice on cases that are not “black and white”.
Follow up. We will contact you to discuss any case where health concerns have been identified. Where necessary, we will seek clarification of the candidate's medical status from their treating doctor or specialist, where you have authorised us to do so, and with the candidate's consent. A service fee may apply, and
Medical-in-confidence email. In the near future, we will be able to email results to you via secure, privacy protected email. This means that medical reports can be emailed to your authorised email address as soon as the report is finalised and consistent with Privacy Act requirements.
